This is my first blog post so not too sure how this works but here goes. I want to tell you about my space and all the wonderful things I have discovered about this magical part of hidden Ireland since I moved here in 1993.
Kinnitty Then and Now
Ardmore House was built about 1840 by the local landlords the Bernard family who lived in Castle Bernard now known as Kinnitty Castle. It was a doctor’s residence for many years. In the beginning it was rented to the local Co Council for 2 shillings and six pence per year. later it was sold to them for 15 shillings. It remained a doctor’s residence
As a teacher in Mountmellick I used drive past this house on my way home to visit my parents and always admired it even though it was painted purple at the time and surrounded by high evergreen trees. In 1993 after returning from New Zealand the house came up for sale and I purchased it with the intention of running it as a guesthouse in Kinnitty. The guesthouse has been a labour of love over the years with ongoing improvements each year. I thoroughly enjoy sharing my home with many people from all over the world who have stayed with me over the years and indeed have made many friends who return again and again.
