Bed and Breakfast Hotel Moneygall Offaly Ireland

Ardmore Country House 4 star B&B is less than 30 minutes drive from Moneygall the ancestoral home of Barak Obama. There is no hotel or Bed and breakfast in Moneygall. Near Moneygall you can visit Shinrone, Damer House Roscrea, Leap Castle Ireland's most haunted castle, Birr Castle Gardens and telescope and Clonmacnoise famous for it's Celtic crosses and round towers where some of the High Kings of Ireland are buried.

The village, of Moneygall with a Ollie Hays Pub Moneygall population of 298 in the 2006 census, was a little known destination in Offaly in the centre of Ireland until local Church of Ireland vicar Canon Stephen Neill uncovered records in the home of an elderly parishioner in 2008.“When I actually discovered the record a shiver literally went down my spine,” he said yesterday.“The whole family left in the 1840s and 1850s,” Canon Neill said. “They were shoemakers, which was a reasonable trade so they weren’t driven into emigration but had the opportunity to go and took it.” Falmouth Carney arrived on the Marmion ship in New York on March 20, 1850.

Although generations have passed, blood ties to President Barak Obama remain in the guise of local man Henry Healy, the president's 8th cousin.

The tombstone of Joseph Kearney, President Obama's 4th great-grandfather is in Templeharry churchyard in Shinrone.

It is hoped that Obama will visit Templeharry Church, on his next visit to Moneygall where his ancestors worshipped, and the local schoolhouse where they were educated.
