Explore Ireland’s Ancient East Heritage from Ardmore Country House. Within 30 minutes drive you can visit Clonmacnoise, located on the River Shannon,  which was one of the most important monastic settlements in Ireland and was the centre of learning for arts, crafts and Christianity in Europe during the first millennium. There are some very beautiful High Crosses and round towers at Clonmacnoise and the final resting place of some of the High kings of Ireland. Other significant heritage sites  in Co Offaly are Durrow High Cross, Leamonaghan, Lynally, Rahan Stone, Kinnitty High Cross,  Seir Keiran, MacGregol Gospels at Birr Library, Damer House Roscrea.
