Day 3
Silver River Nature Trail
Starting at Cadamstown (R422) the Nature Trail is a geological reserve and area of botanical interest and natural beauty
Tullamore Dew Heritage Centre
Located in an 1897 canal-side warehouse in the heart of Tullamore. Spend some time exploring a wide variety of models, panels and audiovisuals telling the story of Tullamore Dew. You'll also have the opportunity to step into the shoes of the merchant class of the last century and try on costumes. Naturally no tour would be complete without a taste of the golden drop itself. A complimentary Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey or Irish Mist Liqueur awaits at the end of your tour. Tullamore is also an excellent shopping town
Mountmellick (N80) and Emo Court (R422)
Mountmellick famous for it's lace (can be purchased at Conroy's craft shop at the junction of Main St. and Clonaslee Road) started to develop when the Quakers settled here in 1659. A few miles outside the town is the beautiful Emo Court designed by James Gandon in 1795 for the first earl of Portarlington. Guided Tours of the house are available from April to October.
Ballyfin House and Lake
(First left off N80 between Mountmellick and Portlaoise)
This house originally the home of Sir Charles Coote built between 1821 and 1826 is a fine example of 19th century architecture. The 30 acre lake at the front of the house contains pike, trench and rudd.
