Kinnitty is less than 2 hours drive from almost anywhere in Ireland. Ardmore Country House is a great base to explore major tourist attractions such as The Cliffs of Moher, The Rock of Cashel, The Blarney stone, Killarney National Park, Guinness store house in Dublin and many more.
Closer to home there are many hidden gems in Ireland’s Ancient East Heritage. Within 30 minutes drive you can visit Clonmacnoise, located on the River Shannon. This was one of the most important monastic settlements in Ireland dating back to 550 and was the centre of learning for arts, crafts and Christianity in Europe during the first millennium. You will see some very beautiful High Crosses and round towers at Clonmacnoise and the final resting place of the last High kings of Ireland. Other significant heritage sites in Co Offaly are Durrow High Cross, Leamonaghan, Lynally, Rahan Stone, Kinnitty High Cross, Seir Keiran, MacGregol Gospels at Birr Library, Damer House Roscrea.
